USB Typewriter

Amazingly, this gorgeous antique typewriter has been modified to work as a USB Keyboard for PC, Mac, or even iPad! That’s right — its a beautiful and fully functional computer keyboard!

The modification is very clean and leaves the typewriter looking, feeling, and working like a regular typewriter. You can use it as your primary computer keyboard, or turn off your monitor altogether and type on paper while saving your work to disk. You can also use it as a convenient keyboard dock for your iPad or other tablet. A beautiful, functional, unique addition to your home office.

The USB Typewriter can type all letters, numerals, and punctuation marks. It also includes shift, space, and return carriage (which is literally activated by the typewriter’s return carriage!). Many non-standard keys, such as F1-F12, ESC, CTRL, and so on are available with special toggle keys.

ABOUT THIS MODEL:
First introduced in the late 1940s, the Olympia SM was widely adopted throughout the 1950s and 60s because of its reliability and snappy, smooth action (owing to its excellent German engineering). This model has been (and still is) used by such writers as Woody Allen, Elmore Leonard, Neil Simon, John Updike, Paul Auster, Carson McCullers, and Don Delillo. It also inspired an incredible series of paintings by Sam Messer. While the SM came in a wide variety of colors, I love this ghostly shade of light grey the best.
