While it might look like a brain-bending puzzle, Mia Schmallenbach’s Meeting Knives set actually features a brilliant design allowing four different kitchen knives: a paring knife, a carving knife, a chef’s knife and a filleting knife to all stack inside each other on a single block of steel. The proportions of each knife were apparently determined by the Fibonacci sequence, a term I haven’t heard since my high school computer science classes, but the results are far from looking like they were designed by a mathematician.

Although Deglon is a French company, Meeting Knife Set just doesn’t do this 4-count of nested slice-and-dicers the same justice of linguistic imagery Russian Doll Knife Set, or Venn Diagram Knife Set would. Not that I wouldn’t buy them. At least not out of spite for the poor choice in naming. Probably I wouldn’t buy them out of being too poor to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on a quattro of knives, even if said set of knives won first prize in the 5th European Cutlery Design Awards. (Oh yes, there is such a thing as a Cutlery Design Award.)

Deglon’s knife set and built-in block are made of high quality stainless steel, and include a 3-1/4″ paring knife, a 5-1/4″ utility knife, an 8″ chef’s knife, and an 8-3/4″ slicer. It appears that removing each knife from the block will require above-average grip strength, so if you need to buy an extravagant gift for a rock climber or a trapeze artist or a koala bear, Deglon has got you covered.
